My husband is trying to get his fingerprints done for the FBI criminal record check and he is being told by the police that ink is not used anymore (it is all done electronically). Unfortunately no one there can give him any information on how to go about getting his fingerprints done.
Has anyone had difficulty getting ink fingerprints done in the US?
Contact the visa office by phone that your app will be processed in they should be able to tell you who they recomend to do the finger prints in your area.

The State of California has been doing digital printing for their clearances for quite a few years now and, as I understand it, digital prints are also being used now - at least in some instances - for FBI clearances, too. I noticed on the FBI website that they're saying they no longer return the ink fingerprint cards as clearances . . . you'll get a letter or something . . . but that would be indicative of a change necessitated by the faster, more efficient use of digital printing.

I got digital prints done at my local police station. And I got my FBI clearance in almost record time.
wmaitner, what did you get back from the FBI for your clearance? How long, exactly, did you have to wait? I am getting ready to send a request to the FBI for my second immigration clearance and just wondered how it works now. When I had the last one done, almost 4 years ago, it was by ink and I got it back in 3 weeks.
I got digital prints at my local police department in South Carolina which were printed on a card (the paper of the card was like a manila folder not regular printer paper). When I submitted them to the FBI I wrote on the outside of the envelope "For Canadian immigration purposes" and "Expedited Processing Requested". I think I even wrote a need by date. It took about 4 weeks and what I got back was a form letter stapled to my print cards. On the back of one of the cards was a stamp that said "No record found" or something similar.
CIC seemed to have no issue with the prints being digital. I got approved.

I was told the same thing. When I called to check on my status they said I wouldn't be in the system for at least 8 weeks. I got my clearance a few days later 6 weeks total.
I am absolutely positive they allowed expedited service last June when I sent mine. I guess due to high request volume they have changed the policy to first in, first out.
