I'm not absolutely certain, but I doubt it. I don't think the standard employment background check looks at every single country you've ever been in.
I've been through these background checks to work for big companies in Canada (like, really big companies - multi-hundred billion dollar companies), and I don't recall that the paperwork said anything about checking my background in the US and India, the other two countries I've lived in.
On the other hand, I don't have any criminal or any other records on my background in any country, so maybe they checked and it came back clean? Though I'm quite certain it would have been written somewhere on the documents that I signed. I read every word.
Do you really want to start your working life with a lie of omission? Why wouldn't you be honest from the beginning and see where it goes from there? IMO it's much better to he upfront and your potential employer not be surprised by what may show up than they find out later and you're out of a job, dismissed for cause!
The issue here is not about me omitting to reveal information which is on record in the UK. The Government of Canada has that information, and they issued my OWP.
The potential employer did not ask me about criminality. Why would I voluntarily give it?
Anyhow, I contacted the background check company and the employer can request an international check...

Was the conviction spent in the UK or Canadian law?
A friend of mine is applying for OWP and here the conviction becomes spent after 3 years meaning her conviction will be spent later this year but not in Canada. Do you think she'll be able to get a visa sorted?
