Hello, I am a permanent resident. About a month ago I applied for a permanent resident travel document on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, however recently I have received this email from the Canadian embassy to submit my passport to the closest VAC center in order to receive a Temporary resident Visa. Is this normal? I mean I applied for a PRTD and not a temporary resident visa. Can you please advise me on this? Further, what would happen when I enter Canada with this Visa and how can I get my new PR card ?

Many thanks

TRVs are only granted to individuals who are not permanent residents or citizens of Canada. If you are granted a TRV and use it to enter Canada, then you'll no longer have a claim to permanent residency.

Have you contacted the VAC to find out if they are really issuing a TRV (maybe this is a typo) and if so, why?

Thank you for your reply, but before I apply for a PRTD I had applied for a temporary resident study permit (as I didn't know I'm still a PR). However, I have received this message from the embassy stating that I am currently a permanent resident of Canada (as I have lived there for some years) and I should either withdraw my Study permit application and apply for a PRTD or renounce my PR status and apply for a student visa. So, I decided to apply for a PRTD and withdrew my temporary resident student visa application and the rest I have explained in my original post. So, I believe by a temporary resident Visa they meant a PRTD but I'm not sure about it.

Again, I would contact them to request clarification.
