Hi everyone, I am currently applying for PR card through Family Class, sponsorship of a common-law partner living OUTSIDE of canada, while I am living in Canada.

While preparing the application package, I downloaded two checklists of documents I need from the cic website. One is from Part 1 Sponsorship Forms, labeled "IMM 5491". The other is included in Part 3 Information Guide, also called County Specific Instructions, labeled "IMM 3903".

It seems to me that the IMM 5491 includes everything in Part 2 as well as Part 3. However, the checklist in IMM 3903 requires just one item, which is the Sponsor Questionnaire, from Part 1.

I am confused about if IMM 5494 is a generic checklist for the entire application, or it is just for Part 1 and different parts need their own application packages.

So should I treat these two checklist as separate checklists and prepare for two packages? Or they just want one copy of each form and document?

Hello, and welcome :)

You don't need to submit documents twice - just submit anything that is on either checklist once. You'll see the country specific instructions list additional details, depending on your country/region specifics.

The organization many use is to split the documents into three sections: sponsor forms, principal applicant forms, and supporting documents (for either/both). Then list what is in each section - either up front or by section. Some people just clip them together by section; others use envelopes.

Good luck!
