Someone asked me if they have a TRV is an expired and now have a new Passport, Can they enter Canada with their expired passport with TRV and new passport?
I told them no they must transfer the TRV but I want to make sure.
TRV can't be transferred. If the TRV is still valid, they need to carry both passports. The key thing is a Valid TRV. TRV are usually not issued beyond the expiry of a passport so if the initial passport is expired, the TRV is likely expired as well but then circumstances can differ so check and make sure the TRV is still valid
I have the same case. I double checked with the canadian embassy and this is what they said:
"The Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations require non-visa-exempt passport holders to carry both a valid visa and a valid passport. Note that the valid visa does not have to be in the valid passport. A valid Canadian visa in a passport which is expired or has been cancelled without prejudice (e.g. for renewal) can still be used since the expiration of the passport has no effect on the visa's validity. However you must then travel with both the new valid passport and the expired/cancelled passport containing the valid visa"
