Hello,

Looking for some guidance for bringing my filipina spouse to Canada for 2-3 weeks to meet my family (we were recently married in December in the Philippines, and she hasn't met my family yet), get a sense of Canadian culture and what it would be like to live here, as well as do some site-seeing.

Reason we are thinking about going the TRV route (vs Family Class Sponsorship) is we feel this trip would help build our case to proof that our relationship is genuine (as required for a Spousal Sponsorship). Given we just met online in June 2018 and got married Dec 2018, during my 3 week trip to the Philippines, we believe that introducing her to my family here would be beneficial for our PR application (we would apply for an outland application once she returns to the Philippines).

That said, we understand it can be difficult to demonstrate that an applicant will not overstay their visit if they have strong ties in Canada (ie. a spouse), so just wondering if anyone here has had any luck with this? Alternatively, wondering if it makes sense to apply for a PR first, although the briefness of our relationship may raise some flags?

Some additional background:

-she is 27 (I'm 35), helps manage a family business, lives with her parents, has only travelled once (for 3 days to a visa exempt country), can demonstrate financial support, but admittedly with a new spouse in canada, it seems difficult to demonstrate ties to the Philippines (aside from not wanting to jeopardize a future PR application, which I doubt is strong enough).

Thanks :)

You can search this forum for cases similar to yours. A lot of people stop posting on this forum after it’s served their purpose, so you won’t likely get active responses from those who’ve personally gone through it.

You have the right idea though, you’ll have to work harder than normal to get a TRV approved for her. The brief relationship will serve alarm bells indeed. She has to demonstrate strong ties to the Philippines, and IMHO, she doesn’t have too many.

The scenario that IRCC wants to avoid in your case is having her sponsored inland once she arrives in Canada. Some people mentioned having success when they mention they will go through the outland process. Again just search.
