I am a PR holder but my son is not as he was born outside Canada. We are all moving to Canada in a week's time. My son (1.5 years old) now has a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) and we will apply for sponsorship as soon as we land. My questions are as follows:
1. Are TRPs covered under government insurance? Will my son get a health card?
2. Do I need to get separate insurance for him?
3. Any suggestions on where to get insurance from if the answer to above questions are no.

1) Probably not. You would have to check your province's website. Prepare to purchase travel insurance for emergencies.
2) Check with your travel insurance broker
3) Canadian insurance companies
