Hi All,

I landed as a PR on August 4, 2012 and still waiting for my PR Card which currently takes about 2 months from landing. I know if you travel abroad while waiting for a PR card you need a travel document or PR card to come back to Canada. However, my question is if you travel to the USA, does this rule still apply? Would I need a PR card or travel doc to re-enter Canada after my trip to US? I already have a US visa.

Any answers would be appreciated!

Thanks

If you are travelling by commercial carrier(plane, boat, bus, train, etc) then you need a valid PR card in order to be allowed to board the carrier and you can apply for a travel document while in the US. If you don't have your PR card and will be travelling by land in a private car, then you can re-enter Canada using your confirmation of permanent residence and your passport. Note that if you are not from a visa-exempt country, you need a US visa too.

Thanks for the info! I just recently got a US B1/B2 visa and may have to travel soon by personal car for business. So I guess I can re-enter Canada with just my passport and Confirmtion of PR .
