I applied for a study permit. I already have a temporary resident Visa and would like to know if I can travel to Canada while the study permit application is being processed in my home country and will they request my passport since I already have a visa.
Thanks

Ok......but why would they need to update the visitor's visa when it doesn't expire until sometime in the future.....about 5 years. Isn't the study permit different? Do you also need a study Visa wit Also, when they request the passport, do they indicate a specific date to take it in? Thanks

The consensus on the forum is that, regardless of any prior Canadian TRV visa, you will be issued a new TRV with SW-1 or S-1 designation.
For this, you need to submit your passport, since there are no VFS offices in Canada, you will need to submit the passport in the nearest VFS office in a country you can legally enter.
You have 30 days from passport request to submit your passport. Unless you really need to go to Canada, it would be better to Dave the flight ticket and not make multiple trips. Note that you can't study without getting your visa stamped.
