Hello! I am a canadian citizen and my partner received eCOPR in May and submitted all documents to the PR portal, which has been in review for almost one month. We booked a trip for August (family wedding) and I know this is entirely our fault, we didn’t realize that you needed the PR card to re enter and also we thought for sure this card would come by then. It’s looking more and more likely that it will not come by the time we leave.
obviously, he cannot Enter the plane back to Canada without this PR Card. I know that there is such thing as a PR Travel Document, but does anyone know if we can apply for that while we are waiting for his first PR Card? Additionally, what the process is like. I’ve tried looking into it and they say to mail the application to the VAC in the country we will be in WITH his passport.. which obviously isn’t possible because he will need it to travel… ugh any help or insight greatly appreciated! Also any insight into how long it’s taking people to receive PR card after they’ve submitted everything in the PR portal?

Yes, you can apply for the PR Travel Document while waiting for the PR card. However you can only apply for the PR Travel Document once you are outside of Canada. This isn't something you can do while you are still in Canada.
For my own edification... I thought that once you had COPR and had landed the COPR was accepted in lieu of the PR card until that came? I didn't realize you have to have the physical PR card to leave/re-enter Canada?

My eCoPR came with a big "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" printed across it. The attached instructions said you can't use your PR status for reentering Canada until you get your physical card.
