I've received tons of help from this forum before so I'm hoping that you guys can help me this time.

I just received my new visitor visa. They gave me till 10/30/15. I wanted to visit my family in NYC. I don't know if I'll visit for American Thanksgiving, which means I'll apply for an extension and hopefully get my new visa in time or for 10/15 or Christmas. Anyway, my question is: Can I travel as a temporary resident? I don't want to be trapped in NYC away from my husband. Can I travel before my visa expires or is it just a huge problem, no matter what my status? I haven't been home in three years so I don't want to wait till I'm PR to go home. I'd appreciate any help on this. Thank you!

If you have a valid permit, you can travel to US even with expired TRV. Check the webpage at CIC
