I'm a PR, and meet the residence obligation of 730 days. I travel outside Canada frequently on work as well as vacation, but my total absence is usually less than 2 months in a year. Being able to travel at short notice is extremely important for me, so I plan to apply for PR card renewal 9 full months before expiry.
While my renewal application is being processed, can I continue to travel using my existing PR card?
Is there anything I can do to minimize the chances of a secondary review of my renewal application?

Does sufficient proof of RO mean passport pages showing exit stamps? I don't have entry stamps on the passport, since we re-enter using the PR card rather than passport.
Also, is there a margin of safety beyond 730 days (say 2-3 months) where the chances of secondary review drop?
Not sure, if there's a margin of safety. I remember seeing on other threads about this and how even after someone having good margin was sent for SR, because of their visit to certain places. So that one is totally on the CIC I guess

Interesting... which places, and does it seem security related? I used to work in the Middle East before we immigrated, but have not been back in the Middle East since then. My travel is mostly to the US, India, and Western Europe.
