Dear Leon et al,
Is it possible for this guy to ask CIC to reschedule the interview? In the meantime, he can apply for a US visa; then drive across the boarder to enter Canada for his interview at the new date.
 
As he said in this post: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/travel-document-rejected-for-pr-renewal-t102268.0.html;msg1414101#msg1414101 they have already refused his PR card renewal and travel document so it is a question if they will now officially revoke his PR status.

However, if his wife is in Canada and meets the requirements, she can sponsor him for PR again.
