transit visa for the usa?

Has anyone applied for a transit visa through the usa?

Can you apply for it before you get ur copr for Canada?

I know u need the transit visa before you can buy your plane ticket.

but has anyone actually had one before?

I've never had one as I'm from a visa exempt country, but the department of state website has some good info:

Not sure whether you'd need to wait for your COPR - might depend on what the waiting time is for the interview at the consulate. Some consulates require booking an appointment weeks out.

It might be easier to just apply for a B1/B2 visitor visa. That can be issued for up to 10 years and then you could transit the US when visiting your home country in the future and potentially for shopping/vacations in the US from Canada too. You could certainly apply for this ahead of your COPR being issued.
