Time to find next job after losing job in Canada on Work Visa

Hi Folks
I am looking to move to Canada on a work visa and then apply for PR. But in this economic uncertainty, I wanted to know how many options or flexibility foreign worker on a work visa has in Canada if they happen to lose their job.
In the US, you get 60 days/lifetime to find another job. What are the rules in Canada? Can we do a temporary change of status to a Tourist Visa, and then reconvert it to work visa upon finding another job/offer?
