Hi Guys,
I'm sponsoring my parents, just awaiting the word from CIC to send in Police Clearance and PR application to the regional CIC office where my parents live.
I got an attractive job offer in the US. the only thing that is holding me back is that then I wouldn't be residing in the Canada, and I'm afraid this will affect their application (if they ask later for prove that I'm still living in Canada).
What does the law say? I'm I putting their application in risk if I move to the US.
Is anybody else facing a similar situation?
From CIC site: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/pgp-apply-who.asp To sponsor your parent or grandparent, you must be living in Canada.
So sounds like if you relocated to another country and CIC found out, they would have justification to cancel the application. No idea though if they would do this, or if this has happened to others. But seems like a big risk.

Not only that. Wouldn't CIC sees that the OP would not have any income from Canadian sources. OP would still have to show proof of maintaining LICO until parents land as PR. By working in US while parent PR is in progress, CIC is going to know it through Option C and income tax report that OP is no longer a resident of Canada and / or sees there isn't enough income to support annual LICO requirement. (depending on how long OP stays in US, OP's income for LICO may be zero. US income cannot be used for LICO maintenance).
Agreed with all of the above. Plus, the OP is still quite early on in the process if the local visa office hasn't requested the PCCs and additional paperwork yet. I think a move outside of Canada would definitely be caught and cause a problem.
I had no doubt they would catch it, I was just wondering what the law says, and your answers confirm my fears. so just few more winters to endure I guess
