Could anyone advise on how to prepare for test, it's difficult to remember every word of the discover canada book. Any tips/strategy for memorizing it? Also, what;s the avg time of receiving test invite once its the application is In Process?

Go though the book couple of times. Prepare online with some mock tests.
Refer spreadsheet for average times, but no one can tell how much time it'll take to get a test invite after IP.

The problem is that you're trying to memorize it. Try understanding it, and it will all seem easy. Most of the stuff is quite interesting and you should know it if you are going to become a Canadian. Of course, some of the dates, names, and their relevance need to be memorized, but practice tests should take care of that.
Read the book 2-3 times, and do the following practice tests.

thank you so much for such as detailed info and links. I am basically finding the history and modern history chapters difficults and the names of the people in those chapters difficult to remember. Any idea how to deal with it?

Read the official book multiple times. Also download the audio book and listen to it few times.
Learn the captions on side of the pages as well in the study guide.
There are many free online tests available to learn the information(additional learning help) however don't rely on them completely to pass the exam as the questions may or may not come from those free online tests.
The test invite could be couple of months to many months depending upon how busy the local office is and the time it takes to do the background checks etc
