Hi All,

I am an International Student in Canada. I have applied for Permanent Residency in Canada which is still in Process.

My question is that if I go to my home country and get married, Can I apply for my wife for a temporary student-dependent visa to bring her with me to Canada? Are there any chances that she will get the visa? I am worried that if the Canadian Embassy say that since the husband has applied for PR, then wife might also want to live permanently?

I don't want to apply for her PR at the moment, because it will take ages if I first wait for my PR, and then I sponsor her, will take in total 2 to 3 years. I want to bring my wife on a temporary visa first (as it should be quick) and then apply for her immigration inland.

Any thoughts / suggestions would be helpful!

Thanks,
Indus

Hi,

1. There is no 'temporary student dependent visa' in Canada. Apply for TRV from your homeland. www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visa.asp

If you get married before you become a PR, you must add your wife to your own PR application.

If you do not add your wife to your application, the following two things will happen:

1) You will never be able to sponsor your wife since you failed to declare her in your application.
2) You will be committing misrepresentation by becoming a PR as a single person when you are in fact married. If CIC finds out about this misrepresentation, your PR status may be revoked.

I have the same question. Have you ever done this? Is there consequence if we add the name of spouse?

Is this better if we get married after the PR?

Thanks
