I am the Principal Applicant (Husband) for Permanent Residence for Canada. My wife and son are Canadian. We have already applied for my PR and are doing the waiting game. However, I would like to visit Canada for about a week in January for vacation to help my wife with a move she is doing as well as visit our son. I miss them both dearly. ;_; I am a US Citizen if that matters. Is this possible to do while the PR app is in place, and if so, what kind of things do we need to do? I assume show proof of current job, return plane tickets, but anything else? Once I am in Canada for vacation, do I also need to submit anything to properly come back to the USA? Just want to make sure we have all our ducks in a row. Thank you for the help.
hi, as a us citizen, all you need to do to visit canada is show up with your passport. there is nothing wrong with visiting your family while your application is processing, many people do this and many people stay in canada while the application processes.
as a PR applicant, it's best to travel with proof of your ties to the us, so they know you have something to go back to. this includes recent paystubs, proof of housing, and even proof of your application. it's important to understand you are there to "visit" while your family is "moving". you can only visit right now, and it's perfectly acceptable to say "I am visiting my wife in canada" when asked the purpose of your trip. they may or may not ask for proof of your ties. be prepared, answer questions that are asked, and don't elaborate on answers.
No, there's nothing needed to come back to the us. you are a citizen, all you need is your passport.

Just as CDNPR2014 stated - Everything should be just fine. My partner is from US and during his outland application process we travelled between Canada and US quite frequently, no hassles whatsoever.
However, if you plan on travelling elsewhere (besides Canada, US) you may find yourself in sticky situations just as we were when we travelled to Jamaica.
