Temporarily leaving Canada while on study permit

Hello,

As a thesis-based PhD student, my research work and meetings are entirely online. I am planning to visit my family outside Canada for few months.
This is not a leave, as I will still carry on my work and conduct meetings with my advisor, who is aware of my travel.
My question is, would this have any effect on my study permit? is there a limit as to how much time I can spend outside Canada?

Not at all. As long as your study permit is valid you can travel with prior approval from your advisor, Just cause its a full time PhD.
