My family and my fiance's are excited about our big traditional wedding next year. We're planning on eloping later this year so we can file our immigration paperwork. Do we need to tell our families about the elopement? We kind of wanted to keep it a secret because we know our moms especially would be disappointed that we didn't wait for the big wedding. However, if it would jeopardize our chances with immigration, then we'll break it to them and let them know. Do we need to alert our families that we've eloped?

One of the questions on the app is did your family and friends know about your wedding and if not why......in my opinon...I would tell my family why I am getting married now so this answer could be put into the app and then go on to tell them all the details of your big wedding that are being planned......
Kind of was afraid of this, but our parents will understand. Our wedding venue is in a different province than where my family lives, so it's a destination for both families, rather than favoring one. Think we'll plan to elope in that province next time we go to meet with wedding vendors in a few months. Being away from both families is a reasonable reason for them not to be present.
plz dont elope...lol...if you are so concerned about the filling process... i would suggest, read out here regarding your country and the sponsorship requirements, and then atleast get your file ready... start working on it now... trust me it aint easy, by the time you get married you will have your package ready, all you will then have to do is, update it right after the marriage with the marriage certificate/proof of marriage/police clearance/medical (these two then so they dont expire too quickly) and update any forms (highlight with stickies where you think you would need to revisit (like work exp, education etc)... and send it in asap... instead of starting all this after your marriage and then wasting/spending 5-6 months on preparing your file or looking for any answers for the questions or confusions you may have... best of luck...
What if you eloped, or just had a civil wedding and then formalize your plans for the traditional wedding.. for example send out invites with RSVP and book a venue, get your relatives to RSVP to the ceremony and also send letters of support. Use all that as proof. That way you could get your visa application in earlier.
