Taking US registered car to Canada temporarily

Hi All,

Please excuse me if my questions is already answered somewhere on the forum.

I have a Canadian permanent residency. I have completed my landing a couple of years ago but since then never been to Canada. I have been living in USA since then. Now I am planning to move to Canada permanently. I have a car registered in USA which I DO NOT intent to import to Canada. Can I still take my USA registered car there with me for a couple of months without importing it to Canada and then return it back to USA? If yes then as a permanent resident of Canada, how long can I use a car without importing and registering in Canada? Just trying to use the old car to get things settled in a new place. (One assumption I am making here is the US-Canada boarder is open when I am planning to return my car to USA.)
