I am a postdoc (i.e. a contract-based position requiring a PhD degree and work permit) and receive both T4 and T4A slips at the end of tax year (with my annual income and tax stated on the T4A). Does this apply to anyone else who has applied under CEC? Is the fact that income tax appears on the T4A slips sufficient for CIC considerations?
Any previous applicants with similar cases, kindly share your experiences!
PS: I have tried to define postdoc as it applies to international fellows, to encourage responses from forum members who may have also received T4As (income tax reported) and have reached advanced stages of PR applications via the CEC class.
Weird that they should give you a T4A. It should be OK in your case, I'm sure you'll be able to get a letter from your employer with all the required information.

Thanks Jes,
I believe it should be fine. It would be nice to hear the experiences of other postdocs. Am sure a a lot receive T4A and have applied through CEC.
I am also a postdoc, I do receive T4 NOT T4A. I applied under FSW3 in June 2010, it is taking so much time. Therefore, I am planning to apply under CEC, would T4 or T4A make any difference? Thanks

If you get T4s, that's good. T4As are generally for non-employment income, (stipends, self-employed) - this type of experience would be excluded from CEC.

I am a postdoc as well. I receive T4A as well. I have just sent my application in May 28. I have included supervisor reference letter, T4A, work permit, a letter from a grad school explaining my employment, and I also wrote long cover letter about the postdoc.... I hope that should be sufficient. The other problem is that in my work permit, they wrote as post-secondary teaching assistant. These all will depend on the understanding of the CIC officer.
T4As should be OK for Postdocs. Some universities (e.g. mine) use T4As or T4s depending on the nature of Postdoc funding. In any case, they are all fully taxed and are both sufficient for CEC applications. Regarding NOC, the job code that best describes your duties will be the best bet. This is particularly important considering that some people work in job positions widely different from their degree!
