Soo... I changed my surname recently (from a surname-surname to just surname, so dropped the hyphen), got a new passport, and applied for a work permit extension with the new passport, but from an online my cic account and with the UCI that had my old name. I attached a letter of explanation that I changed my name, etc. They approved the application and extended my permit, which is now assigned to my new passport with my new surname, but the name on the permit is still surname-surname! did anyone have a situation like that? I imagine there might be problems on the border? do you have any ideas why that happened? and how can I fix it?I am now worried that even though I apply for PR (with my sponsor - common law husband) with my new surname, they will use my UCI and process the whole thing under the old surname :/ what confusion! now I have half documents for the old and half (including my passport!) for the new :/ what do you think I should do?

Carry the documents that showed your old and new changes when you travel. Get across the border and in time get it reorganized.

Yeah, I will have to do that... I just don't know how will I get CIC to accept my name change! I don't want my PR documents to be considered under the old surname! I called them some time ago, after I changed my name, and they told me I have to wait until I apply for a new permit first for it to be issued in my new name. I did, I applied for a new permit with my new name, using my new passport, and I have no idea how and why they issued it under my old name! could that be that my UCI is assigned to that name? If so, HOW do I fix it????? Most importantly, do you the same problem will arise with my PR application???????

Btw I;m in Canada right now, so the problem is not so much crossing the border (as I hope the border agency has seen these things happen before, although it's annoying) - what I worry is HOW do I persuade CIC to change my name so that my PR application can be processed under it?

My Polish wife changed her surname to mine - we sent in our name change certificate with our application. As for the CBSA, they only wanted to see her passport and CoPR. Didn't ask for name change certificate.

Thanks mega! But, did your wife have an UCI before you applied for PR? Because i sent them all the name change docunents with the work permit application too and yet they issued it under my old name :(

Spouse application

Hello everyone I am new to this form but looking for some help. I have applied for my wife last year under spousal category. I am PR in canad , I have send the application to CPC Mississauga last year, they received the application on 20th of July. After that they send me acknowledgement about that I am eligible to sponser my wife and they are forwarding to Delhi. After that I checked the online application status on behalf of my wife using her application number, they have three lines over there:
1 we received your application.
2. We started your application on 18 September
3. Medicals have been recieved.

Since than its showing in process.

can someone tell me what will be the next step and how long it will take , it's almost a year now.

Also my wife didn't recieve any email from Delhi stating that we recieved your file, but we see the above three steps online....(ecas

Any help can be appreciated.

ask these questions in the new dehli specific thread. you will be able to determine a time line and whether that visa office sends a second acknowledgement of receipt (AOR) to applicants.
