Hello everyone. My degree program requires me to complete a co-op work term during the Summer break. Do I still need to apply for a work permit?
I am uncertain about this because why would we (international student) still have to apply for a work permit since we are now able (no paper) to work full-time during school break.
I would very appreciate inputs from you guys. Thanks.
YES you will need a Co-Op work permit regardless the Co-Op trimester ( summer/fall/winter )
I have made a topic here about a month ago regarding this problem as my school advisor told me that I do not need the Co-Op work permit since it's in the summer. But she was wrong !
However, I called CiC twice and verified that you still need a Co-Op work permit SINCE THE INTERNSHIP IS CREDITED, so that your internship credits count towards your PGWP.
Coop work permit doesn't take long to get issued, I got mine 3 days ago after 21 days of applying.

Co-op work Permit (unlike OCWP or PGWP) is tied to your school (school is main employer). Means you can work only for those positions which have been approved by the school. You can't apply for a Co-op permit without a co-op letter from school.
