I am canadian citizen and my sister's son is doing his studies here. I want to apply visitor visa to my sister and brother-in-law. Thinking if i can apply for thier visitor visa or my sister's son? Please suggest if the case be stronger if i apply or if my sister's son applies.
Also since he is the only child, what other documents are required, apart from their financial documents(Notary and Bank statements)
There is no sponsorship for a TRV. Whoever is visiting is the one who applies, not you or her son. So your sister and BIL apply showing their own funds, ties to return and travel history. If you want to act as their representative, you can do that and they sign the rep forms saying you are applying on their behalf.

You can submit an invitation letter but what is importantly is your sister and BIL’s profiles (ties to their home country, funds, previous international travel, etc.) I assume your nephew lives in the same city as you or lives with you.
