Submitting Emails and Chat Logs as Evidence

My husband and I have a mountain of emails and chat logs to submit as proof of our relationship (along with other documents), but there are some some lines in our emails and chat logs that we do not want to submit (too personal). Can we black out the lines that we do not want the IO reading, or should we just exclude those emails and chat logs altogether? We don't want the IO thinking we have something to hide by blacking out lines...

based on what I have read over and over a lot of people have blocked personal information from chats and emails that they feel uncomfortable sharing with the IO. I personally don't think it's a problem- I'm sure they wont suspect in any way that you are hiding anything.

I blacked some lines out in my application, but then I decided just to leave other stuff in or take out that email entirely as I didn't want to submit too much with blacked out lines, it would be pointless. I don't think there is any harm in blacking stuff out though.

I copied and pasted some emails and chat logs into another program and just deleted a few lines here and there.

I had a tonne of chats saved, so I just picked out a couple that weren't too intimate. If you have a lot of material, then you can afford that - I doubt any IO is interested in reading a book's worth of chat logs, so sending just a few is enough. I sent one from every month we were talking and that came out to over 30 pages.

I sent a print of on month chat logs which I had edited out anything I felt was private. On the front page I had a note explaining what the log was and added the fact that I had every other month from July 2007 to Sept 2008 if required.

For the emails I had screen caps of the email thread headers only. Which amounted to over 450 threads over a year. On the note with those pages I explained what the emails were and how each was a thread that was pages long.

If you are already merging your affairs you can also send things like Insurance policies with each other's names on them, medical and dental benefits with your spouse on them etc.
