Hello,
I am a student at Saint Mary's University in Halifax. I applied for my visa through VFS in Dubai back in 2019, got approved then I went and did one semester before the pandemic started. I travelled back to Dubai 3 months later when everything turned online. Due to my short passport length, my study permit and visa were valid for only 2 years. It expired a month ago in December, I heard stories of people applying from outside Canada and getting rejected due to the nature of their courses being online. I talked with my international student advisor over zoom. She advised me to play it safe, travel to Canada, submit an application from inside Canada, and then go back to Dubai as it would be the safest option. That was exactly what I did.
I travelled to Canada and stayed with some relatives for around 2 weeks before the visa's expiry date, applied for an extension on the 26th of November 2021 then flew back to Dubai. The study permit extension was approved yesterday on the 19th of January and I have its details. My question is
The international student advisor told me, once I get the permit approved, I can just provide my UCI along with supporting documents to the Canadian embassy in Dubai and they would print the visa on my passport. Do I apply for a visitor visa through canada.ca? Do I contact the embassy and ask them? Do I hand everything to VFS? What should I do next?
Thank you so much for your help!
