My study permit expires in 8 months, but I have already finished my college program. Since I do not plan to apply for PGWP (post graduation work permit) do I need to leave immediately?

Hi PMM, thanks for the reply. I have a followup: In review, I have 8 months left on my study permit. I had completed all the requirements of my program in December 2013.
I plan to apply for a study permit for another diploma program. Should I have applied while I was still in student status or can I apply
now, though I am not a student anymore?
