Hi all!

Let's say the school issues me a Letter of Acceptance stating that I will begin my study in Jan 2021.
And then I use it to apply for my study permit.

So what if there is still travel restriction in Jan 2021 and I can't go to Canada, do I need to get a new LOA from the school and apply the study permit again?
Also can I go to Canada earlier than the stated date of the study permit (in order to settle myself)?

I would think you will have to defer your admission again for next term. I was planning for September 2020 and now I deferred to January 2021. I am hoping to travel in January. According to my research I found you can go to Canada 45 days in advance. However, there has been posts where people said they went 2 months in advance and the officer at port of entry didn't have any issue.

Yeah I guess I would need to defer my study anyway. Just wondering whether I should apply the study permit now given that no one knows when they will cancel the travel restriction.
I see! Going to Canada probably a month earlier than the start of my study sounds good enough to me.

I am working with my law firm at the moment and my lawyer said we should be applying for January 2021 regardless of the uncertainty, so that my application stays in the queue. If you want to go 30 days in advance there shouldn't be any problem. They were going to open border by July 31 but they extended for August. I am assuming they would extend them more if required. I don't see a lot coming in terms of relaxations really. It is all messed up. I think you should def apply for January and if something god forbid slows down or restrictions don't ease at least you can update the Letter of Acceptance and defer and your application can be processed in a timely manner.

Cant agree with you more! They have just reopened the border for US student (which is the most seriously affected country by Covid-19 in the world) and I really hope that they will do the same for other students. Especially the one I'm going to is a flight school and there is no way that I can do online training without flying a plane in reality.
Anyway all the best to you too!

Most colleges are starting in-class delivery for January 21 but if govt doesn't ease restrictions then colleges can't really help the situation. I am in Culinary field and my classes are in class only. I am hoping to start my program in January. Wish you luck as well.
