study permit to work permit , online application or flagpole?

hi all

i am on a study permit which expires soon . i have a LMIA approved job offer . do i apply online or do i flagpole?

i have applied pgwp on may 5 ,2015 . still waiting and the status shows open.
study permit expired on july 2015.
can i go to us border and flagpole.i have heard that one can get an instant work permit there.
Please suggest as my study permit is already expired,
