Hi everyone,
I’m currently on a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) set to expire in January 2025. My spouse is on an Open Work Permit (OWP) that also expires in January 2025. My spouse applied for a Master’s program starting in January 2025 (application lodged on September 1, 2024), and the plan is for us to switch roles once approved, with my spouse on a study permit and me on an OWP. However, it seems we may need to defer to the Summer 2025 intake if the study permit approval doesn't come through soon.
I applied for my OWP based on my spouse's study permit application, and I’ve received a work permit extension (WP-EXT) allowing me to work until February 15, 2025, or until a decision is made. My current PGWP expires in January.

Here are my questions:
  1. If we defer my spouse’s program to the Summer 2025 intake, would we need to notify IRCC and submit a webform?
  2. If the study permit gets approved in January, but we've already deferred to the summer intake, will I still be allowed to work after my PGWP expires? Would this new approval allow me to continue working, or would I need to wait until my spouse begins studying to be eligible to work?
Any insights would be appreciated—thank you!
