Hello Everyone,
Applied for Study Permit in October 2024 for January 2025 intake(Inside Canada Application). Not received any decision yet. Anyone in the same boat.
Thanks!!
What is your status in Canada to be eligible to apply inland? If eligible, processing is currently around 14 weeks so don’t expect a response in time for start of semester.
She is not eligible because IRCC closed the the loophole where spouses and common-law partners cannot “flip-flop” between who is the principal status holder (the student or the worker), and then become the spousal open work permit holder themselves as their own spouse either went to school or began working in an eligible job. So your wife is the principal status holder and is not eligible for SOWP. It was implemented so couples would not keep changing status and remaining in Canada as a worker or student.
Now whether IRCC makes an exception will only be known if approved. If refused she can remain in Canada as a visitor.
Although a lot of the October cases got their approvals in this tracker, you can see that there’s a few September ones still open / processing so it’s not entirely unusual that you’re still waiting… https://myimmitracker.com/en/ca/trackers/study-permit-tracker
Maybe try reaching out to those people who are still waiting and checking if their application has been moving forward at least?
