There will come a time where I will be required to extend my study permit. Nothing is more important than my status. How early can I apply for study permit extension? 3 months prior to expiry or even earlier?
What's the reason btw?
If you are interested in another program then earlier the better.
If you need more time to graduate, then too earlier the better.

I am enrolled in 2 programs. It’s a dual degree. IRCC recognises this and my permit was issued based on the LOA which mentioned the duration and specifications of both the programs. However I am eligible to take a semester break between the end of the first program and the start of the second program. I have verified this with my college and the IRCC Website. Breaks are defined by individual institutions and a break should not be more than 150 days. Both these conditions are being met.
The break of 4 months have not been already accounted in my expiry date, as it should not, rightly.
I know this right away so maybe I can apply for extension when I start my course in Sept 2024?

In this case, as soon as you can get extension letter from the college indicating the reason. As the processing time is whooping 150 days so the apply for one as soon as you get all the required documentation.

IRCC recommends submitting 3 months before your existing study permit expires. However, the advisors at the International Students office at my university mentioned including a letter explaining why you are applying early if you are doing it more than 5 months sooner.
