Study Permit Extension- This permit does not authorize the holder to engage in employment in Canada

Hi there


I applied for an extension to my study permit. In the Remarks/ Observation section, it states that " THIS PERMIT DOES NOT AUTHORIZE THE HOLDER TO ENGAGE IN EMPLOYMENT IN CANADA".

So, when I went to Service Canada to update my SIN number, they said that we can't update your SIN number as your current status does not allow you to engage in any kind of employment and that I have to wait till my work permit arrives.

I have already applied for my Post Graduation Work Permit and that due to come some day in the end of November so does that mean until that time period I cannot work anywhere?

My previous study permit did not had these types of remarks. Is there something I can do? I tried to call CIC, but as usual I am not able to reach them.


Any help would be kindly appreciated.

When was it approved ?

For amendment of conditions on SP there is a procedure .

I applied for extension on May 22nd.
Received the extension on Jun 25.
My previous study permit had remarks that allowed me to work part time on/off campus.
The extension does not have these remarks, it has "THIS PERMIT DOES NOT AUTHORIZE THE HOLDER TO ENGAGE IN EMPLOYMENT IN CANADA".

I am pursuing a bachelor degree and this is my last term, and ONLY for this term I am part time. I am expected to complete my program on August 31st.

Received the extension on Jun 25.
My previous study permit had remarks that allowed me to work part time on/off campus.

To be able to work, you need to be full time.

I do understand the clause of being able to work part time in last semester is only for PGWP eligibility.

But just to be sure , I checked CIC website
It says :


If you’re a part-time student, you can work off-campus only if you meet all of the requirements above and you’re only studying part-time, instead of full-time, because:

• you’re in the last semester of your study program
• you were a full-time student in your program in Canada, up until your last semester
• you don’t need a full course load to complete your program

  If that applies to you and you're eliglible to work , send an amendment to Ottawa , it takes a month to come back .
  Is it worth it ?
  Since you're graduating on Aug 31.
  And even if you submit it tomorrow , it'll take 3-4 weeks to process .

You should get it ammended now because if you apply for PGWP with that note in the document then you wont be able to work while waiting for PGWP.

Can you tell me when did they start review of eligibility ?
I applied on July 3rd and they started eligibility review same day after 3 hours .
