Hi. I recently applied for a new study permit after my old one expired same time as my passport. I would like to to know why would the immigration office ask me to send in my official transcripts from the schools I have attended, can’t they get that information on their own ? And if my grades haven’t been stellar in past two semesters will this reduce my chances of getting a new study permit ?

No, they can't get that information on their own.

Yes, if you are not showing strong performance in your studies, it may be a sign that you are not a genuine student. So poor grades or a lot of failures can be a issue.

so is there anyway I can explain the grades or they will have to verify with the school ?

They don't verify with the school. That's why they are asking you for transcripts. They'll only verify if they feel you faked the transcripts.

You may have been asked to do this if you have been in Canada for longer than your program was supposed to last; they're basically going to check to make sure you're not just attending and flunking classes just to stay in Canada.
