Hi,

I recently graduated in April 2020 from a university in Ontario. I received my open work permit as well and now looking to travel internationally and come back to Canada. My study permit on the passport has expired, however I have the valid open work permit document. I know I will require an ETA (electronic travel authorization).

I'd like to know:
1. if there will be any issue that may arise due to travelling and trying to return back to Canada.
2. will I need any other approval or verification other than the ETA.
3. do I need to send in my passport to be stamped or visa status updated. (If yes, please guide how I can get that done).
4. any other issues that my arise.

I really appreciate any feedback I can get on this,

Thank you.

Once you have an ETA, you may have an issue with current guidelines. You need to prove your travel is non-discretionary. If you have a job offer then you shouldn’t have an issue. You have been out of the country for a long time so you need to prove that you normally live in Canada. Show your rental/lease that you have been paying etc. Or any bills you have been paying from your CanadIan address. You need a 14 day quarantine plan.
