Student Spouse Visa Proof of funds

Hello, To apply for a study permit with the SDS program, the requirement of GIC is 10,000 CAD, but if someone is applying with a spouse and children, either the applicant requires to get a GIC of 17000 CAD (40,000+4000+3000) or for spouse and children bank statement will serve the purpose? If it is GIC for the spouse and children, do we have the only option to withdraw the money at one time or one to receive only a fixed date on which we can get the money per month? Please advice.
