So I was recently informed of the strike that may be affecting our applications.
Could someone please expain it to me. I have read a few things but I am not clear how/if it is affecting our PR applications.
My office is Port of spain Trinidad and tobago.... is my PR application likely to be delayed as a result? What about a visitor visa through the POS office. Will there be delays there?
There will be delays everywhere. The priority is being shifted to urgent humanitarian cases. The rest of us "normal" applicants will just have to wait even longer

Foreign Service Workers do a number of jobs at Embassies worldwide. Some of which are the processing of all kinds of visas. CIC has a policy of putting a priority on family reunification. Due to the job action I would imagine that some managers would have a contingent of processing applications already long in the queue as well as trade and economic stuff for which time may be a huge factor.
My own belief is that applications received by the Embassies prior to the new year would be their focus to try to clear up.

Is there a precedent on how long such strikes last? I know for the airlines they stepped in and called them essential services. I doubt FSO abroad fall under this. Can it go on for months?

It can go on until there is an agreement the union members can ratify.
This is how corrupt this government is. Air Canada is no longer a Crown Corp. Its been privatized for quite some time. We have other domestic carriers and for international flights you can choose international carriers. The government has no business colluding with a private business to undermine workers rights to negotiate with their employer.
