Hi there!
I recently applied for the CEC about a week ago. I'm under the IEC program for the second time and my work permit expires in the 25. My friend told me that when they recive the application pack I'll be fine to stay but now I'm confused because of the time that takes normaly is over 1 month wait until you get your first notification from the CIO. What happens during this time of wait when my work permit expires and I'm waiting for the response from the CIO??? Am I implied as soon as I send the papers or not? What is the next step to do now? Do I need to apply for a tourist visa in ordser to stay in the country or I'm fine just by waiting??
Thankyou
Applying for permanent residence has no bearing on your current status in Canada. It does NOT give you implied status. And if you stay in Canada without authorization, you will jeopardize your PR application.
If you want to remain in Canada as a visitor (not a worker) you will have to apply to extend your stay as a visitor -
If you apply before your current permit expires, you may remain in Canada until a decision is made. If wait until after your current permit expires, you will have 90 days to apply to restore status and apply as a visitor (costs more).
If you received your AOR before your current work permit expires, you could apply for an open work permit (in which case, the application for a new work permit would give you "implied status.").
Thanks for that response. You clarified all my questions.
Do you know if when I apply for an status change online from worker to visitor in order to stay and wait for my case to process it changes immediately to visitor or does it take some time??? I mean, am I good to stay even if I do it on the last day of my work permit????
thanks
Very risky to apply on the last day. What if there is a system glitch? I would apply at least 2 weeks before the current document expires.
