Hi
I am sponsoring my wife we married in 2010. For 2011 when I was filling my income tax I did not change my marital status to married if I have changed it ufile will asked me to enter my spouse SIN# which she does not have so I changed my statues to single I was thinking she is not relevant and does not apply to her. Now I will be submitting my note of assessment with my spouse sponsorship application would this cause any problem?
Thanks
I don't know if it will cause a problem with your sponsal sponsorship but why risk it? You were not 'single', better to have asked CRA for advice.
In my opinion, it's better to sort this out before you apply for spousal sponsorship. This way there is no discrepancy in your status and you avoid issues with CRA down the road. Speak to a tax consultant/accountant at HR Block, Liberty Tax, etc and they should be able to help you with it.

Yes it will. Call CRA and tell them you were married, get the address of the tax centre for your address and send them a letter explaining and explain the whole PR thing. Sometimes they will request you to send a copy of the actual application (they did that to me) so be prepared for that.
Hi Thanks for your info. If I fill my income tax 2012 electronically how long will take them to process and give me note of assessment for 2012? So I can send CIC the updated one.
Thanks

Because you will have to prove that she doesn't have a SIN, it will take longer than normal (a month) so I would guess around 2 months, or three depending on how busy your tax centre is.
