My fiance and I (Canadian citizen) want to get married in Denmark in the future and we both currently work in Europe. What is VERY confusing to me is obtaining a 'Statement in lieu of non-impediment to marriage'.
I read here from the Global Affairs Canada website, that we can obtain the statement from any embassy. Some people on this forum state that you can obtain one on the same day.
Some websites state that I would need my birth certificate to obtain the statement. Is this true? The problem is that I left it in Canada as I have really no need for it here in Europe.
The global affairs website is not clear on what documents are needed to obtain the statement. Do I just go to the nearest embassy and swear in front of a notary that I am single?
On the statement I need the following information:
Name
Date of birth
Place of birth
Current address
Citizenship
Marital status
I guess it depends of the Embassy. I only needed my passport to get it from Cairo Embassy.
The easier would be to call the Embassy directly and ask them.

Steps:
1. Called embassy to ask if I can get it in one day.
2. They said yes, and I have to bring demand draft (credit card works too), make the payment and get it.
3. Went to the embassy, asked for the counselor, requested to get the document, made the payment, got it in 15-20 minutes.

If you were previously married you will need a divorce certificate. Have you checked to see if you need your documents authenticated first by the Canadian government? Without the birth certificate you may have problems. Translations?
