Spouse with Less education

Hi All,

My husband will be pursuing MBA from University of Manitoba in Fall In-take. I would like to apply for Spouse Visa after he leaves. Unfortunately, I have not pursued my education due to family issues in past and had started working in a very early age. I work with Barclays as Project Manager now but have no degree to prove my education.

I want to know, Is it mandatory to show education degrees? If i dont have any, will my visa be rejected on this basis? Will i not be granted work permit in canada on this basis?

degree or any kind of education not required on spouse sponsorship. and you can start your education in Canada as mature student once you got PR.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, but if it's unusual in your culture for spouses to have different levels of education, then your application might face extra scrutiny. Just be sure to present a solid, air-tight case that your marriage is genuine and you'll be fine.

Sandra, you should know that spouse/dependent child sponsorship has almost no pre-requisites.

Medical check is there to make sure there is no public health risk in allowing this person in, there is no provision for undue stress on the medical system as with other visa classes.

Criminal record check is performed to ensure you are admissible to Canada.

There are strict checks into the validity and genuineness of your relationship, and for patterns of marriage fraud and/or marriage of convenience. This is by far the most stringent portion of the application for the average person.

Is your husband already a PR or citizen? IF so, then you shouldn't have any issues. If he isn't a PR or citizen, then you should post your question to the International Students section, since the requirements for a dependent work visa are quite different from those who are sponsoring their spouses for PR.

Agreed. There is no problem. And even in those cultures, CIC follows what can be considered a little bit "sexist" protocol and discriminate more in cases where the woman has a higher education than the man.

Yes - but only sexist in that that's how conditions are in the home country. If in the home country educated men marrying uneducated women is normal, then the reverse would be a big concern. That bias probably works in the OP's favour, as you said.

True. It's why CIC has to look at each region separately.

As an aside, you might want to consider starting the immigration process before he finishes his new course. That is assuming that he has PR or citizen status in Canada already. The timeline for a spousal application is generally in the 6 to 18 month range (depending on visa office).
