Hi all! My boyfriend is doing a PhD in Ontario, he's an international student. We are planning to get married (we've been together for +4 years) but I'm not sure if I can apply for a spouse visa after the beginning of his program.
Also, if I could become elegible for a spouse visa, where should we get married (Canada or our home country)? I can go to Canada with an ETA.

You can decide whether to do in Canada or home country. Best way is to do outside of Canada and apply at POE ( In case of any question, your husband will be present at POE to answer any questions. Be prepared to answer to questions related to proof of relationship...

c&p Most spouse/partners come to Canada as visitors first and apply for a work permit after they are in Canada. If your spouse or partner does not require a TRV, they may be able to apply for a work permit at the border or airport where they enter Canada.

Got it! I need a TRV (ETA, in my case) though. So I could travel to Canada as a visitor, get married there and then apply for the spouse visa + OWP, right?
Maybe we could get married outside Canada and submit my application here... We really don't know what's the best choice
