Spouse visa for a PR holder who has not yet landed

Hello Friends

I am new to this subject of family class sponsorship. I have secured PR visa and will land in August. I am single and if i plan to get married now, then what options do i have to facilitate quick entry of my spouse in Canada.

Also, I have heard about conditional PR. Can I apply for a conditional PR for my spouse from my home country? So how this process works and what are the timelines. (For example, I file an application for conditional PR for my spouse in my home country and she can come along with me to Canada in August on TRV and then she secures conditional pr? Is this how the modus operandi works?)

I will deep dive to find out more about the topic. Any help would be highly appreciated.

If you get married before you land, you MUST add your spouse to your application. Then you can simply bring her to Canada as your accompanying spouse with her own PR. Whatever you do, don't get married then claim single when you land. Either add her to your current app, or get married AFTER you land.

If you land while married and don't inform CIC you can never, ever sponsor her.

Conditional PR is pretty much meaningless. It's called "condtion 51". If you haven't been married for 2 years or don't have kids together, then this condition states you must live together for at least 2 years after your spouse gets her PR, or she could lose it. It has nothing to do with the actual PR process.

Yes, Aquakitty's point CANNOT be overemphasized enough. Absolutely, DO NOT land after you get married without declaring you are married. As pointed out, she will be forever "excluded" from Family Class sponsorship.

In any case if i get married before I land, I will inform CIC about it.

So in this case, if i marry now, will my existing PR get affected. I mean do i need to submit my stamped passport and COPR letter?

Also how much time will it take for the spouse to get her PR visa?

If you get married before you land, then you must return your COPR and let your visa office know you have gotten married. You must also complete all of the paperwork to add your spouse to your application - including medical and police check. CIC will likely take a few months to process the additional paperwork - then they will issue a new COPR for both yourself and your new wife.

I think doing it this way is faster than including her as non-accompanying and sponsoring her later, isn't it?
