Hello,

I have a question about immigration in quebec.

I am currently on a work and study permit from Jan 2016, it expires in April 2018. My girlfriend and I have lived together since august 2016 and she is Quebecois and we are looking to get married soon.

She is a student and works part time and I am also working in Canada as i have a work permit. If we get married and she is working part time can she be my sponsor? Or does she not make enough?

As right now we split the cost of our apartment and living between us, and have done so for more than a year. Will it not look like she cannot support me? Or am I allowed to work after we get married and I apply for citizenship or PR? Or do I have to wait for that to be approved before I can work?

Curious if we get married and I apply before December and my work permit is good till April 2018 if I may hear from cic before then if i can just continue to work on my previous issued work permit.

Also what the avg wait time is from when she applys to sponsor me to when im eligable to work here.

Because you have been living together for more than a ywar you are considered common law. You dont need to get married to apply. You can apply inland and apply for an open work permit at the same time (usually within 4 months your receive the work permit) and can work while the application is in process.

As far as income i think you guys will be fine - explain she is finishing her studies and works part time and you work and should be fine! There is no minimum requirement for a sponsor however its good to explain.

Thanks a lot, we are planning on getting married anyway.....but if we apply under common-law can we change it to married? Or does that not matter?

Just wondering if married looks better than common law...
