Hi,
my girfriend has moved to Canada for work and is on a 12 month contract (she has 9 months left on it) and we aren't sure if she can sponser me as her spouse. Her work seem to suggest that because we haven't been together for 3 years ( its been 2 years 7 months) that she isn't able to sponser me as her spouse ?
We have proof of our relationship, living together, joint account etc etc for this period of time. I'd ideally need an Open Work Permit as well, is this something that would be granted if she was my sponser ?

We are both British Citizens and have no criminal record etc.

Thanks for your help

Re: Spouse query

please kindly check if her job is under the category of NOC 0,A,& B.. If yes, you have a chance to apply for open work permit.

Re: Spouse query

Doesnt she need to be a PR Before sponsoring someone else to become one?

Re: Spouse query

Hi, thanks for you replies.
She is a skilled worker and her visa runs out in April 2014.
Ive confused myself with reading the forms too many times ! so have a few more questions ......

Do we have to have been in a relationship for a min of three years for me to be classed as her common-law partner ? We have a joint account, lived together etc so have proof that we have been a couple for the last 2 3/4 years.

I guess that she would have to apply on my behalf ? as what I've read (maybe incorrectly) is that I will need to have a job offer, I started filling out the forms online but they require job offer letters etc. I was hoping to go over and find work with a open work permit without having to have an offer beforehand. Basically work whilst her visa & contract are still valid and from there decide where we go next. I guess I would have to be listed as her dependant but then wouldn't be able to work ?

It's not a permant resident visa I'd be looking to apply for as we don't know what will happen when her visa runs out, maybe stay if we can or go elsewhere.

Again thanks for your advice.

Im sorry I can't help, but I do sugest you ask over in the foreign worker section of this board - this part is for people who are applying for Permanent Residency, so may not be the best to ask.

I hope you find the answer to your question, good luck in your travels :)
