I have a question..
If my husband holds a skilled work permit as a chef and is working in Alberta, if I will to apply for an open work permit, is it okay if I work in Toronto?.. I have a cousin living in Toronto and he told me, I can easily get a work there unlike in Alberta.. Does having SOWP allow the spouse to work only in the province where her husband is working?
To be honest i think its a very Dangerous idea. Immigration Canada is giving a spouse of a skilled worker a very special gift - an open work permit. Its meant to allow the family to stay together and to help the family get established.
Its not good if your work permit was cancelled just because you are wanted to work somewhere else and abusing the gifts that are given to you.
Alberta also has many more jobs available and better wages than Toronto. Who told you that Toronto has more jobs?
I got your point.. I think you're right.. Thanks! I am a financial analyst here in the Philippines.. Our head office is in Toronto so I am thinking that it would be better if I apply in the head office rather than settling in Alberta.. My job is also a skilled job but I dont have employer to sponsor me, so we decided that I am to apply for SOWP since he is a chef and already in canada..
I am thinking of Alberta as a province with mountains with so much snow, and so cold.. But I will consider first living there since my husband is there, assess the place then decide if I would still want to move to Toronto.. if he's willing then that would be great since I have lots of relatives there..
But, what if my husband resigned from his job now in Alberta, and come with me to Toronto, will his work permit be revoked? what will happen to me?.. I mean, will it also affect my SOWP status?..
