I am working in Canada since Dec 2012 and I am waiting for this Dec to apply under CEC category.
In the meantime since my closed work permit is expiring by Jan 2014, it will put me in difficult spot to get open work permit before Jan end. So can my wife get a job with her open work permit (need to apply now), which will allow me to continue? or since she will be my dependent , getting her open work permit will not help me?

Please read his original post. He hasn't applied for CEC as he hasn't worked for 12 months. So it is unlikely that if he applies in Dec. that it will have his AOR in January, when his work permit expires.
Your wife's open work permit expires the same time time as your work permit. For her to get a work permit, she would need a LMO, after the job is advertised for 4 weeks, and then apply for a closed work permit. The LMO approval takes about 8-12 weeks, so that won't work either. It looks like you need to get an approved LMO if you wish to continue to work in Canada.
