Hello,
I have applied for study permit and my spouse as a dependent in my application and I am awaiting for a response from CIC - Delhi. My course starts in Jan 2013.
I have a question regarding spouse open work permit (SOWP) -
1. Could I and should I have applied for my wife's SOWP in my application itself?
2. Now that I have not, is there any chance that the CIC will somehow give her the same?
3. Can I still apply for her SOWP while being in India after we get a study permit / visa? How?
4. Can I apply for it at the port of entry in Canada? How?
5. Can I apply for it after entering Canada and staying there for a few days? How?
Which of the above is fastest? Guide please, urgently.
Thanks.

Hi all,
Sorry for delay in response as was occupied in shifting to my hometown.
I got S-1 Student Visa and my wife got Visitor Visa as a Dependent.
My profile is as below:
Admitted to George Brown College (GBC) for T403 Construction Management.
Education and professional background:
M.S. Structural Engineering: Kansas State University, USA - 2007 (Thesis option)
B.E. Civil Engineering: L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad - 2004
Work Ex - 6 years.
IELTS requirement waived off by GBC as my last education was for a 2-year period in USA (which is an English speaking country).
IELTS General: 8.0/9.0 (2012)
GRE: 1280/1600 (2004)
TOEFL: 280/300 (2003)
I applied for Study Permit under generic program and not SPP as I wanted to apply for my wife's dependent VISA as well. For my wife we applied for a normal Visitor VISA and included our marriage certificate, wedding photographs and enough money in our JOINT SAVINGS BANK ACCOUNT. The minimum amount should be CAD $4000 for spouse's living expenses. I plan to apply for her SOWP (Spouse Open Work Permit) after we land in Toronto.
Regards.
